1966 Thunderbird Jack Points

Post by 1966Tbird » Sun Feb 21, 2016 12:46 pm

I'm going to be replacing the tires on my '66 and I need to jack it up. What is the best place to put the jack, and then place the jack stands?

While the tires, and off I am getting them painted and putting new rubber on them. I want to replace the brakes while the car is up in the air. It will be up for a while so I need it to be safe.

There are jacking points just to the rear of the front wheels and in front of the back wheels where there is reinforcements installed in the floor framing, the locations should be shown in the shop manual if you check.

I would place the jack stands under the front lower control arms close to the wheel this will stop the lower arm bushing from torque stress on the rubber, place the stands under the rear axle close to the spring U bolts or right under the lower spring center mount.

You may want to see if you could put jack stands under rear spring hangers or take off rear wheels when car is being jack up from jacking points. In my experience if rear is not hanging down wheels will not have enough room to be pulled out between fender and drum

Just wondering about the car jack that came with the car new. I have one from a 65 and I don't think it will work on the front bumper. Could be wrong though.
I was in the army stationed at Ft. Lewis in November 1973. I bought my 65 Thunderbird near there and was hooked on Thunderbirds ever since.

A 65 jack "hook" will not work on a66 front.Ask me how I know.
A 66 Thunderbird is cool. A Sapphire Blue 66 is a beautiful car. The 428 engine completes the package.

Don't ever use a bumper jack on your tbird 0X
It's gonna be cool when it's done

So what are you using for jacking up your car? I have a 1 ton jack and a 2 ton jack. The 2 ton works better.
